Recipe adapted from I Love.I Coke.I Bake.
Bread Machine Chocolate Loaf
1 egg (lightly beaten) + water = 225ml
100ml fresh milk
1 ½ tsp salt (I used 1 tsp)
40g caster sugar
25g butter (soften)
450g bread flour (I used 400g bread flour & 50g plain flour)
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 ½ tsp instant yeast
100g chocolate chips
Add the ingredients to the bread pan according to you bread machine instruction.
For my bread machine, first I add all liquid (egg, water and milk), follow by sugar and salt (at different corner), butter and flour/cocoa powder (I mixed together beforehand). Then make an indentation at the centre of the flour and add in instant yeast. Select “Sweet” program for 900g bread with “Light” crust.
Add chocolate chips only when signal is given by the bread machine.
Remove loaf from pan once done and leave to cool completely on wire rack before cutting. Keep in airtight container or sealed plastic bag.

Haiz ... so most of us had the breadmaker problem .. and my bread machine never gives a smooth top .. can I have another tip on that?ReplyDelete
Mine is a different brand .. but I guess I can give it a try after I finish this loaf that I just bought today.
Oh, sorry, this comment is so that I can follow up the thread with email.ReplyDelete
My bread machine is Carefour house brand which is no longer on sale as told by a reader. You may click on the link in the post to check it up.
I only saw 3 brands sold in most departmental store, Kenwood, Zojirushi(small volume and more pricey) and another brand which I can't remember the brand name (cheaper than Kenwood). I think these are the common brands.
I have seen quite a number of bloggers using Kenwood one so I believe it should be not bad and I like its horizontal bread pan. Unlike mine the bread pan is vertical, therefore, the shape of my loaf is weird.
You mean tips to get a smooth top? I am sorry that I have no idea and actually I don't bother about this. :P
Different bread machine brand is ok, I guess the outcome won't differ much.
Ya ya, tips for a smooth top. Mine, everytime i do, the top sure looks terrible. Yours look very good. :)ReplyDelete
I just bought a severin brand bread maker from vivo tangs at $179 and my first bread is this chocolate bread. Followed to the dot. and yes it is very soft...:)
but the chocolate taste is very light. The outer layer is also very soft! thanks a lot..
I don't have any tip for the smooth top, I think it also depends on the recipe u use.
Congratulations to your new BM and thanks for trying out this recipe.
I saw severin brand in departmental store.
As mentioned in my post, I also find the chocolate taste not so prominent. Try using good quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips I am sure it helps to enhance the taste.
i use kenwood bread maker is it can make ?ReplyDelete
Yes. You canuse Kenwood bread maker.
Well done Angela!
Thanks for the great recipe :) How about if I want to make the small one? Can I just reduce all the ingredients to 3 quarters of the original recipe? Thank you!ReplyDelete
Yes. Reducing to 3/4 of this recipe is ok, choose the approriate size of your breadmachine setting.
I tried making this with my bread machine today and it was great ; )
My kids love it very much.
I used chocolate bar (I lived in France and chocolate bars are cheaper), roughly chopped them so most are still big pieces and left them in the chiller until the machine beep for adding them.
It turned out great, pieces of chocolate can still be seen throughout the loaf and the taste is very chocolatey. Maybe you can try this little trick as well?
Thanks for the great recipe. I tried your banana chiffon cake as well and it was wonderful too!
Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I will try your method next time when I attempt to this recipe.
I am glad that you like both recipes.
I tried out the recipe last night, I love it soooo much. The bread is very soft even until next morning ! The only problem is the max. loaf id 900g for my BM, and the dough has proofed till very tall and big. I have take it out and bake in over but it was niceeeee ! Thanks for such great recipe.
